Meet the Teachers
What is an Atelierista (ah-tell-YAIR-ee-stah)?
An atelierista is an educator with a background in the arts who works alongside teachers and children to support learning through creative exploration. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, the atelierista helps design meaningful experiences using materials like paint, clay, natural elements, and more—encouraging children to express their ideas in many different ways.
Far more than an art teacher, the atelierista is a co-learner, researcher, and documenter. They observe and reflect on children’s work, helping to make learning visible and deepen understanding through the creative process. The atelierista also helps foster a strong connection between artistic expression, inquiry, and cognitive growth.

Substitute Teacher- Atelierista
Izzy Bickford
Miss Bickford brings a joyful, kind-hearted presence to Sunflower Fields. A natural with children, she blends curiosity, attentiveness, and playfulness into every moment. Whether she’s gently supporting friendships, leading creek adventures, or spotting salamanders with expert eyes, Miss Bickford shines as both an educator and a teammate. Her thoughtfulness, sense of fun, and deep care for the natural world make her an irreplaceable part of our community. We’re so lucky to have her as a Substitute Teacher!
